PBS Food Content 'Ketchup'

August 11, 2021
By Madisson Haynes
Few things are seen as "universal" nowadays. In fact, very little is looked at in the same light across different cultures, generations, communities and lifestyles. But the love of delicious food exists everywhere. Traditional and cultural cuisine, family recipes, secret ingredients and specific techniques are rooted in the fact that, yes, food provides sustenance, but food is better when it tastes good.
Just like PBS has a library of documentaries, informative series', dramas, news and current events, PBS also has a collection of food content. Yes, we love stories about other people, but we also love stories about cuisine and its history. PBS Food takes our taste buds on adventures through different parts of the world — from Greece to somewhere south.
So, pull up a chair, grab a fork and prepare to stuff your face with culture, recipes, videos, articles and more. And remember, don't forget to save room for dessert.
Upcoming: The Great American Recipe

PBS Food offers more than just delicious recipes. We're throwing some friendly competition into the mix with The Great American Recipe, an uplifting cooking contest that celebrates the multiculturalism that makes American food unique and iconic.
The new eight-part series is hosted by Alejandra Ramos and premieres in Summer 2022 on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS Video app. The show will give talented home cooks from different regions of the country the opportunity to showcase their beloved signature dishes and compete to win the national search for "The Great American Recipe."
Judges Leah Cohen, Tiffany Derry and Graham Elliot will bring their professional insights and deep culinary knowledge to encourage and support the contestants along the way. The Great American Recipe is presented by VPM, Virginia's home for public media, and produced by Objective Media Group.
Upcoming: La Frontera with Pati Jinich

Need something else to look forward to? Savor the sights, sounds and flavors of the U.S.-Mexico border alongside acclaimed chef and James Beard Award-winning host Pati Jinich as she experiences the region’s rich culture, people and cuisine. Travel with Pati to El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, McAllen and Brownsville as she shares meals with locals from all walks of life and reflects on the melding of cultures.
Along the journey, Pati, who received a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, draws on her vast experiences — both as a political analyst at a policy research center and, after switching careers to cooking, as resident chef of the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C.— to conduct in-depth interviews with locals in the region. Pati’s charismatic personality can currently be observed as host of the four-time Emmy nominated series Pati’s Mexican Table.
La Frontera is coming to PBS this October!
The Life of Loi: Mediterranean Secrets

Want to experience cultural cuisine without leaving your home? Tune in to The Life of Loi: Mediterranean Secrets. In this short series, Maria Loi, executive chef of the critically acclaimed Loi Estiatorio restaurant in Manhattan, shares thousands of years of knowledge baked into Mediterranean cuisine. Maria takes us island hopping across Greece – from Athens to Naxos to Evia – while learning about local ingredients and serving up the secrets to making some of the region's most classic dishes.
From the Athens rooftop of the historic Hotel Grande Bretagne that overlooks the Acropolis, to a boat moored in the Aegean sea just off Naxos island, to a mushroom farm on Evia island, Maria gives us an insider’s tour of her home country from every conceivable vantage point.
We also join Maria back home in her restaurant kitchen, where she puts her own spin on the dishes inspired by her travels.
The Life of Loi is living proof of why the Mediterranean way of eating is considered one of the healthiest in the world, with some cooking and health tips dished up along the way. You can watch The Life of Loi on PBS Food, Facebook or YouTube.
